Education for Homeless Children and Youth
No matter where you live or how long you have lived there, your child has a right to attend school and receive a free appropriate public education. The Education for Homeless Children and Youth is authorized under Title VII-B of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 USC 11431 et seq.) and is designed to address the problems that homeless children and youth have faced in enrolling, attending and succeeding in school.ÌýThe Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program exists to improve educational stability, access and academic achievement of children and youth who are experiencing homelessness.
School Liaison on Every Campus
Parents are our partners! As the parent, you have the responsibility to keep your child in school and make sure they attend. Even if you move frequently or plan to move soon, send your child to school.
Homeless students in the Washington Unified School Â鶹¹ÙÍø are assigned to a Homeless Liaison at their school site. This staff member is there to help your child have access to the resources they need to be successful in school. Resources include:
- Educational Planning
- Hygiene Supplies
- School Supplies
- Connection to Community Resources
ForÌýmore information or if you have any questions, please contact the Washington Unified School Â鶹¹ÙÍø Department of Educational Support Services or the Liaison on your school campus.
